Brendan is a freshwater ecologist with more than 45 years’ experience across lake and stream ecosystems. His research spans quantitative assessment of fish populations using diving, netting, electrofishing, and investigations into how land use influences fish, invertebrates, and their bioenergetics.

He has examined how invasive fish affect water quality and native species, explored fish migration and passage, and modelled how low flows shape stream habitat availability. With a background in biology, botany, mangrove ecology, and a PhD in stream geomorphology and salmonid habitat, Brendan brings significant depth to our ecology capability and the support we provide to clients and communities. His expertise strengthens our ability to deliver practical, evidence-based solutions for the health of Aotearoa’s freshwater environments.
