Communications Specialist

Join an established and highly respected environmental and engineering consultancy with a nationwide presence.  Driven by solving the important infrastructure and environmental challenges facing NZ, we are still growing and invite you to be part of our future.

You will be working in a business that prides itself on our people-focused culture, our fun workplace, and our creative thinking and sound advice.

At Pattle Delamore Partners (PDP), we’re shaping a better tomorrow for Aotearoa through science, engineering, and environmental expertise. We’re looking for a talented writer and communicator to help bring our brand purpose, Today Shapes Tomorrow, to life across every touchpoint.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves getting on the tools, researching, writing, editing, interviewing, and creating content that connects. You’ll have a strong communications and storytelling focus, supported by an understanding of how marketing and brand work together to share a cohesive story. You’ll also play a key role in leading or supporting the delivery and development of winning proposals and other opportunities to win work, ensuring our messages are clear, compelling, on brand, and answer requirements clearly. Working within a small, collaborative Marketing and Communications team, you’ll help get our brand out there by telling the stories that showcase our people, projects, and purpose. You’ll work closely with the Marketing and Communications Director, technical specialists, and leaders across the business to turn complex information into clear, engaging, and authentic storytelling. From crafting articles, video content, and website stories to supporting key bids and proposals, your work will help ensure PDP’s voice and purpose are brought to life.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead or support the delivery and development of winning proposals and other submissions, crafting persuasive executive summaries and ensuring responses are clear, complete, on brand, and answer requirements directly.
  • Write engaging content for our website, including case studies, project stories, and people profiles.
  • Develop thought leadership and storytelling that raises PDP’s profile across industry channels, media, and publications.
  • Create video content that brings our people and projects to life.
  • Identify opportunities for award submissions and support their development with strong, compelling narratives.
  • Shape internal and external communications that reflect and embed our brand purpose, Today Shapes Tomorrow.
  • Find something interesting in the everyday, identifying opportunities to promote who we are through events, media, conferences, and presentation opportunities.
  • Turn technical content into plain-English storytelling that connects with clients, partners, and our people.
  • Contribute to internal communications such as our Connected newsletter, strengthening how we share stories and updates across PDP.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Director to deliver writing training across the business, and with the wider team on brand storytelling, campaigns, and other initiatives.

 What we’re looking for

  • A natural storyteller with excellent writing and communication skills, and an eye for how brand and marketing connect.
  • Hands-on approach, confident producing, editing, and publishing written and visual content.
  • Experience leading or supporting the delivery and development of proposals, bids, and other opportunities to win work.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience, preferably in a B2B environment such as a consultancy, professional services firm, or similar organisation.
  • Ability to translate technical information into clear, engaging, and persuasive content.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and a knack for finding great stories in the everyday.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and levels.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori principles and authentic storytelling (advantageous).

What’s in it for you?

  • Fully subsidised health insurance and income protection
  • Ability to purchase extra annual leave through salary sacrifice
  • Salary top-up for parental leave (all primary carers)
  • Flexible/Hybrid working culture
  • Multiple opportunities to be part of our inclusion, community, and sustainability groups
  • Professional development support, including full cover for membership fees & continued study

At PDP, you’ll join a creative, supportive team shaping meaningful environmental outcomes for Aotearoa. You’ll be hands-on with storytelling, content creation, communications, and proposals that strengthen our brand, support our bids, and share the work that shapes tomorrow.

Apply now and help tell the stories that shape tomorrow.
