Principal Stormwater Engineer
Overall, the incumbent will provide technical input and guidance to develop solutions to a wide range of complex stormwater-related projects carried out by our Water Infrastructure team. General three water infrastructure design experience is also desirable.
About the Role
- Promote PDP values to clients by delivering high-quality and innovative technical solutions.
- Lead technical project work in the stormwater and general three waters infrastructure area.
- Oversee and direct investigation works, hydrological and hydraulic analysis, design development, detailed design, tender and construction monitoring of complex three waters infrastructure projects in compliance with the required technical standards, specifications, and guidelines.
- Check design calculations, drawings, reports and other documentation prepared by the project team.
- Lead, mentor and support the project teams working on three waters infrastructure and water resources engineering projects.
- Manage and deliver projects ensuring that all deliverables meet client expectations and are within the agreed scope, budget and timelines.
- Ensure that all deliveries comply with the required health & safety, quality, and environmental standards.
- Ensure project profitability by effective time management and following the agreed scope including identifying and communicating any departures or scope changes well in advance.
- Develop effective relationships with other internal workgroups and find ways to assist in their projects, including proactively managing the relationships.
- Assist with planning and undertaking business development and raising the company profile. Build and manage external relationships (networking, clients, regulators, other consultancies) and identify and deliver profile raising opportunities.
Skills and Experience
- Degree, in Civil or Environmental Engineering from a well-recognised university.
- 10+ years’ experience in a consulting environment.
- Track record of performance in the NZ market, working on projects or undertaking technical work in the stormwater and general three waters engineering space.
- Full Membership status or demonstration of being able to obtain Full Membership through a recognised accreditation (e.g. CPEng, or equivalent international accreditation).
- Senior experienced engineer in the stormwater and general three waters engineering space, with strong client focus together with a passion for outstanding service delivery.
- Experienced and able to project manage, provide technical leadership, supervise and undertake work in the stormwater and general three waters engineering space.
- Ability to develop strong and trusted relationships with colleagues and people in client, supplier, partner and stakeholder organisations.
- Communication skills – effective negotiation, influencing and facilitation; excellent written and verbal communication; experienced and confident in presenting technical work and outcomes.
- Commercial skills – risk management, contracts (consulting and contracting), financial.
- Ability to supervise and develop a team of staff and to deliver on commitments.
- Fairness, integrity and good judgement.
- An enquiring mind and a genuine interest in PDP’s business/disciplines.
