Technical Director – Contaminated Land

We are looking for a Technical Director in Contaminated Land who will be taking a lead role in maintaining and further developing PDP’s established Contaminated Land presence in Wellington and the central New Zealand region, and to contribute to projects in other offices as required.  You will work across a wide variety of projects and further develop your skills and leadership expertise with the support of the Land team in Wellington and around the country.

About the Role

  • Proactively develop and maintain contaminated land business opportunities with PDP’s existing and new clients.
  • Contract and project management including cost estimation; tender and contract preparation; and project planning and implementation.
  • Provide technical oversight of a range of field investigations and plan, write and review technical reports.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Lead and provide technical input into the Wellington contaminated land team while working across other workgroups within PDP, in particular Planning, Geotechnics, Water Infrastructure and Water Resources.
  • Create relationships and new opportunities with a range of clients from regulators, central and local government entities and private industry.
  • Seek opportunities to actively promote PDP’s brand.
  • Mentor and develop team members.

What you’ll bring

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience as a contaminated land professional – New Zealand-based experience within a multi-disciplinary professional consultancy is preferred.
  • Degree in earth sciences, Environmental Science or relevant engineering discipline, with a focus on environmental chemistry and/or geology and/or hydrogeology (or equivalent). A higher degree an advantage.
  • SQEP under the NESCS with CEnvP-SC or equivalent professional certification an advantage.
  • An expert in specialised and relevant fields related to site contamination, including thorough working knowledge of the NESCS Regulations, New Zealand’s Contaminated Land Management Guideline documents and the resource management consenting process as a minimum.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven team leadership skills.
  • Creative thinking to find innovative solutions for our clients.
