Ahuriri Rural Tributaries – Baseline Environmental Assessment
The Ahuriri Tributaries Catchment Group Trust (ATCGT) engaged PDP to establish the baseline conditions of the rural tributaries of Te Whanganui-a-Orotū (the Ahuriri Estuary). The baseline monitoring conducted by PDP provides a “snapshot” of the current health of the tributaries to support ATCGT in their decisions around the best mitigation strategies to improve water quality, biodiversity and climate resilience. The data also provides a baseline from which to measure the potential impacts of remediation and mitigation measures brought in by ATCGT and the community over time and allows comparison with regional and national scale data.
PDP and ATCGT collaborated closely to ensure a community focused approach to the monitoring techniques, use of existing data, and presentation of the findings. This enables a better connection between the community and the tributaries.
Key aspects of this project included:
- Water Quality Assessments – Field Monitoring
- Reporting of key findings and technical recommendations in an accessible, contextualised and practical manner.
- Community presentation of findings
