BP EV Gigahub, Christchurch and Nationwide EV Roll-Out
PDP has been supporting BP in the rollout of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across New Zealand, including the flagship Gigahub at Christchurch Airport. Developed in partnership with Christchurch Airport, the Gigahub is the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, offering 12 fast-charge points with capacity for future expansion.
Ahead of construction, PDP carried out a contaminated land due diligence review to assess the site’s environmental status. This informed earthworks planning, soil disposal options, and consenting requirements. Our team also undertook a geotechnical investigation and prepared an erosion and sediment control plan to manage construction impacts.
Beyond the Gigahub, PDP continues to assist BP with EV charger installations at service stations nationwide. Given that these sites are listed on the Hazardous Activities and Industries List (HAIL), our role includes assessing proposed works under the NES–Soil Regulations to determine whether they can proceed as permitted activities or require resource consent. For selected sites, we undertake soil sampling to guide health and safety measures and inform soil disposal planning, ensuring developments progress efficiently and in line with environmental requirements.
