Grafton Road Wellington – Rock Slope Stabilisation

In 2022, Wellington City Council engaged PDP to assess and remediate slope stability risks to the road for a greywacke (siltstone and sandstone) slope cut at 60° – 80° along a 68 m length of Grafton Road, Wellington.

PDP conducted a geotechnical slope inspection and stability assessment and presented the Council with remediation options. PDP successfully designed and obtained building consent for the selected remedial solution, which involved installing anchored mesh across the unstable slope length. The design solved key project challenges by strategic placement of anchors and mesh to avoid multiple services and trees and limit the works to within the road corridor to avoid encroachment into proximal private property. The installed solution also facilitates vegetation growth to visually mask the works over time.
