Hororata Solar Farm Resource Consent Application (2024-25)

PDP partnered with Selwyn Solar LP to support a 10-hectare solar energy development in Hororata, Canterbury. Our role spanned the full consenting process, from early investigations through to resource consent lodgement and approval. We began by conducting geotechnical and contamination assessments to confirm the site’s suitability for solar infrastructure.

Our water quality and hydrology specialists developed a stormwater management approach that safeguarded both the development and its surrounding environment. To address potential off-site effects, we completed glare and reflected light modelling, as well as a dust impact assessment supported by a practical monitoring and management plan.

PDP coordinated input from external landscape architects and led the preparation of regional and district consent applications, ensuring the process was smooth, compliant, and grounded in sound evidence.

Collaboration with the client and open communication with both councils were central to the project’s success. The outcome was the timely granting of all consents, paving the way for construction to begin. The Hororata solar array is set to contribute clean, renewable energy to the region – a positive step in Canterbury’s transition to lower-carbon energy.

This project reflects PDP’s capability in planning and environmental management for renewable energy and demonstrates our ability to deliver efficient, forward-thinking solutions tailored to site, scale, and stakeholder needs.
