Mangawhai Groundwater Take – Consent Renewal and Water Management

PDP supported Kaipara District Council in renewing its resource consent for the Mangawhai groundwater take, which supplies the local community and experiences significant seasonal demand. Drawing on expertise from our Planning, Engineering, and Groundwater Hydrology teams, we developed a comprehensive Water Demand Management Plan before preparing the consent application and effects assessments for submission to Northland Regional Council.

The bore accesses the Mangawhai Heads aquifer, a shallow unconfined sand aquifer with moderate to high allocation, and typically serves around 75 residents, increasing to approximately 900 over summer. PDP’s early engagement and thorough technical inputs ensured the process ran smoothly, with the consent granted on a non-notified basis for 35 years. This successful outcome reflects PDP’s practical, end-to-end approach to helping clients meet their legislative obligations efficiently and with confidence.
