We partnered with Northland Regional Council to support the Tangata Whenua Water Advisory Group (TWWAG) in incorporating mātauranga Māori into freshwater management policy. Our work involved facilitating engagement with TWWAG to understand their aspirations for upholding the mauri me mana of freshwater and translating their insights into a practical planning framework that blends Indigenous knowledge with western science. This collaborative approach ensured alignment with the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management and empowered TWWAG to contribute their invaluable knowledge to the decision-making process.
