Perris Road Landslide – Remediation for Pipeline

PDP completed a project addressing a landslide that affected critical gas and petroleum products pipelines north of Auckland. This work was essential for maintaining the integrity of the pipelines and preventing further affects.

Our team was responsible for determining the landslide model and developing stabilisation and ongoing monitoring strategies. We carried out geotechnical investigations, including the installation of piezometers to understand the landslide’s failure mechanism and the influence of groundwater on its stability.

Regular site inspections were performed to track changes and monitor groundwater level variations leading up to the remedial works. The remedial works involved a number of key actions:

  • Safely removing landslide debris to prevent additional instability.
  • Redesigning the slope and installing a sub-surface drainage system.
  • Excavating and realigning the pipelines to relieve stress.
  • Installing a groundwater monitoring system.
  • Using inclinometers and surface crack monitoring lines to check for future movement in the landslide area.

The successful completion of these works in May 2022 ensured both the stability of the landslide and the ongoing integrity of the pipelines.
