Tekapo Power Scheme (TPS) is located at the head of the Waitaki Valley in the Mackenzie District and uses water from Lake Tekapo to generate electricity. The TPS controls Lake Tekapo water levels for storage purposes and diverts water from Lake Tekapo to Lake Pukaki along the Tekapo Canal. Electricity is generated at two hydroelectric power stations – Tekapo A and B. PDP was engaged by Genesis to undertake all the surface water assessments associated with the reconsenting of the Tekapo Power Scheme (consent due to expire in 2025). PDP provided hydrological analysis of nearly 100 years of scheme operational data, quantified the effect of operational changes on downstream rivers and streams, and assessed potential climate change impacts.
